Outreach Activity: Marie Curie Open Day
The Open Day is an Outreach Activity intended for students at high schools, undergraduate university students as well as the general public. Aim of the Open Day is to introduce everyone interested in the
topics of the NEMOH project such as general volcanology (what do we know about volcanoes and how can we learn more) as well as the specific research topics of the ESRs employed in NEMOH. Furthermore visitors will be informed about the research and training opportunities provided by EU Marie Curie programs.
The Open Day will be held in continuation of the first NEMOH network school on Saturday 23 of February 2013 at the buildings of LMU Munich at Theresienstrasse 41 (detailed direction will follow). The Open Day will comprise interactive lectures, question&answer sessions and selected lab tours through the facilities of experimental volcanology of LMU, given mostly by the ESRs from NEMOH; all other participants of the NEMOH School are welcome to participate and present their studies to the general public. The ESRs are intended to setup selected hands-on experiments and volcano models explaining aspects of volcanology such as i.e. volcanic eruption styles, magma ascent and bubble nucleation. All ESRs are intended to actively participate to the organization of the Open Day. A discussion via the NEMOH Forum will follow to collect ideas and coordinate the activities. One later afternoon and evening during the Network School is reserved to finalize preparations for the Open Day and finish crafting of models.
