DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The goal of the project is to analyse and develop models of surface deformation associated with subsurface magma movements and their connection with thermal signals. The selected candidate will join the crustal deformation group at IES in measuring and modelling deformation associated with eruptions and magmatic intrusions. The goal of the project is then to evaluate in particular what surface deformation signals are anticipated in response to temperature variations related to such sources and the associated heat transfer. Collaboration with other NEMOH members, including secondments at other NEMOH laboratories, will involve evaluation of fluid-rock interaction and inverse analysis.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The successful candidate will work for three years towards completion of a PhD at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland; a leading institution in the field of volcanology. The candidate is expected to complete a PhD within a research group including experts on volcano deformation, geothermal activity and volcanism. T
REQUISITES:
Candidates are expected to have background in geophysics or related fields and must meet the following requisites: 1) any nationality, but not having resided or carried out their main activity (job, studies, …) in Iceland for more than 1 year in the past 3 years; 2) no more than 4 years may have passed since completion of the degree that in their country gives access to a PhD; 3) not having completed a PhD. Current PhD students can apply.
