DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The goal of the project is the development of a mixed deterministic/stochastic approach to the solution of the transport equations describing volcanic processes. The successful candidate will work on problems involving partial differential equations (PDEs) describing volcanic processes, including PDEs with random parameters and time-dependent stochasticity. Mathematical investigation of the properties of such (S)PDEs, their numerical solutions, and output analysis are included as part of the research to be performed.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The successful candidate will work for three years at the INGV in Pisa, in close cooperation with the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Pisa (DMA), within research groups internationally renown as leaders in the physics of volcanic processes and numerical simulation of volcano dynamics (INGV), and in probability and statistics as well as mathematical analysis of PDEs (DMA).
