MARIE CURIE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP/PHD AT THE EARTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE SECTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GENEVA IN PHYSICAL VOLCANOLOGY
Application Deadline: 15/06/2012
Potential candidates should send a motivation letter, a CV and two letters of recommendation to Costanza Bonadonna ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The project will focus on numerical and experimental investigations of particle transport and sedimentation in a multi-hazard setting (tephra fall and granular flows). The successful candidate will learn how to design and carry out dedicated experiments and will become familiar with state-of-the-art numerical approaches for the study and description of particle transport and sedimentation. A special look will be given to the quantification and parameterization of uncertainties for the development of optimized multi-hazard assessment strategies in collaboration with Dr Marzocchi and Dr Sandri (INGV, Italy).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The successful candidate will work for three years at the Unit of Geological Risk of the Earth and Environmental Science Section of the University of Geneva. The Earth and Environmental Science Section of the University of Geneva is a dynamic and stimulating working environment with a long history and expertise in the field of risk reduction and prevention and is equipped with dedicated facilities for the assessment of volcanic hazards (sedimentology lab; petrology lab; computer facilities; fluid dynamics lab for the study of hazardous flows).
